Fudgy Black Bean Brownies

Fudgy Black Bean Brownies

Fudgy, black bean brownies?! Yep, its a thing and so delicious! I was so skeptical when I first heard about a brownie made from black beans but these brownies are AH-mazing! The best part is no one will ever know they are full of fiber from beans..score!

These brownies are free of gluten and other processed gunk. Plus a cup of black beans has half the calories that a cup of all purpose flour does, and more protein, 15gs to be exact. Who doesn't mind a little plant based protein boost to a delicious brownie!?

This recipe uses a boiled chia egg to replace eggs. “What’s a chia egg Chiababe?” Its a plant based alternative to an egg yoke. It’s super simple to whip up these “eggs!” Just 1 tbsp of ground chia seeds + 1 tbsp of lukewarm water, mix and let sit until it forms a gel like substance.

Enjoy your dessert without the guilt! These healthy black bean brownies are not only delicious but packed with fiber, protein, iron and magnesium.

Healthy Coffee Alternative that tastes just like coffee!

Healthy Coffee Alternative that tastes just like coffee!

Looking for an alternative to coffee?

For me caffeine use to be something I needed everyday just to get out of bed! But, I soon realized the side effects especially as I started to clean up my diet. While there are some antioxidants in coffee, it's also very acidic and can put a lot of stress on the adrenal glands.

If your not sure what the adrenal glands are I suggest doing a little research! The adrenals are two glands that sit right on top of the kidneys and are responsible for taking on stressful situations, flight or fight and cortisol.

On the PH scale it's actually one of the most acidic things we can consume next to soda pop. The problem with this is that our body is constantly trying to maintain a balanced PH to fight off disease etc. Many studies have found that all cancer patients have one thing in common and that's an acidic body. Now I’m not saying coffee is evil..however, there is such thing as the compound effect so I do recommend keeping coffee to a minimum.

As an alternative I suggest trying Yerba Mate for the first few days in transition to get your body away from the acidity of coffee but still giving you small amounts of caffeine while you taper. After about a week using Yerba Mate, which has a ton of amazing benefits. I suggest switching over to this newalternative known as Dandelion Coffee or Dandy Blend

Dandelion Coffee has a similar taste to coffee, but it’s less acidic and bitter. It’s also a little bit sweet because of the chicory root! It has a satisfying coffee taste and is herbal so there's not stimulating caffeine and no crash.

The Dandelion Coffee contains probiotics, which can be super helpful for the gut which in return helps with regularity and immune function. It also has antioxidants that stimulate circulation and help reduce inflammation. Dandelion also enhances the body’s detoxifying functions and helps restore normal liver functions!

I like to add a little almond or coconut milk to my Dandelion Blend and then blend it! This creates a nice frothy consistency. Here are the details:

Boil hot water for your dandelion coffee

Let steep for 3 minutes

Add 2 tbsp of almond milk to your blender with your coffee(without the dandelion bag of course!)

Blend for 30 seconds

Pour into your favorite mug!

You can also try this iced which I love! Simply add ice and let chill for 15 minutes in the fridge then blend again.

I’ve been caffeine free now for about a year. I love how much consistent energy I have. No more crashes…

Does Fruit Make you Fat?

Does Fruit Make you Fat?

Does fruit make you fat?

I remember when I had this mindset a few years ago.. I literally would limit myself to one piece of fruit a day because I was afraid of the sugars!

But the truth is FRUIT IS YOUR FRIEND. 👭🍒There's no need to be scared of fruits sugar content. Here's why, not all sugars are metabolized the same in the body. Fruit, unlike processed sugar is full of antioxidants, fiber and water. An oreo on the other hand might have the same amount of sugar but full of processed ingredients, lacks fiber and can actually generate more cravings.

This doesn't mean run to the store and grab jars of maraschino cherries 👎🏼😂 this means grab fruit in its whole, unprocessed form. An apple, a pear, strawberries. Stay away from canned fruit, which has no nutritional value and includes added syrups and sugars.

Fruit is not the enemy. Fruit does not make you fat! Excess calories, processed foods, bad digestion/elimination make you fat. Adding more fruits into my routine was scary at first, but honestly I’ve only gained health since making this change. My digestion has improved dramatically, my tummy is flatter and my cravings for specific foods have even subsided.

If your looking to cut down on sugar in your diet your taking a great step toward a healthier lifestyle. With that being said, dont be scared of fruit. If your looking to cut down your sugar intake start with highly processed foods like (cookies, candy, soda, etc) which are full of added sugar.🍪🍩

Remember: Fruit has fiber, antioxidants, and water. The high fibr content and water slows the release of these sugars into the bloodstream.

Apples, bananas, cherries, strawberries, peaches, plums, pears, mangoes, pineapples, oranges, lemons, papaya, watermelon, kiwi– these are some of the healthiest (and tastiest) foods on the planet. Don’t let anyone try to tell you otherwise. Happy Hump Day! 💕

Creamy Strawberry Coconut Smoothie

Creamy Strawberry Coconut Smoothie

Happy Monday loves! Last night I picked up a carton of organic strawberries from Natural Grocers for $2.99! What a steal 🍓🍓

This first spring smoothie recipe is so smooth, creamy and full of vitamin C which will help you glow from the inside out! Not only will your immune system love this burst of nutrients but so will your skin!

Did you know that your body does not make vitamin C on its own? Which means it’s super important that you eat plenty of fruits and veggies that contain vitamin C in your daily diet. Vitamin C helps with protection against immune system deficiencies, cardiovascular disease, prenatal health problems, eye disease, and even skin wrinkling!

This smoothie is extra creamy thanks to Coyo Coconut Milk Yogurt. This yogurt is dairy-free, egg-free, gluten-free, grain-free, nut-free, peanut-free, soy-free, vegan, and vegetarian. They use rich, raw, coconut cream as the base, and the taste is so uber smooth! 😍👌🏼

Check it out👇🏼🍓

1/2 cup coyo natural flavor
1/4 cup organic orange juice (just oranges!🍊)

The 5 Second Rule

Oh my goodness! I can't believe its spring already 🌷I get super excited for the 1st of each month it feels like getting into my blocks at the start line in a track meet lol😂 life is never a race in my opinion but this perspective gets me motivated, ready and in the zone to tackle this month.

Did you know if you have an impulse to act on a goal, you must physically move within 5 seconds or your brain will kill the idea? Ah I can’t count how many times I’ve done this

I’m reading about the brain, acts of courage and why the “right time” will never come, and realizing sometimes you just have to start even when you don’t want to. 😑

This rule I’m implementing into my life is called the 5 second rule. It’s by@melrobbinslive (she’s a badass) this 5 second rule may sound silly to some initially. I’ll admit it did to me at first! But it’s teaching me how to build courage like compound interest.🙋‍

Truth is, with each small act of courage, more courage follows..it compounds👍
Here are two universal facts: One, we all want to change our lives one way or the other and two, we spend most of our time waiting for that change to occur. Excuses like “I’m waiting for the right time” or “tomorrow”

Here’s the thing: 1. Change is ALWAYS new. 2. It always comes with uncertainly 3. It’s always scary

Whether you want to eat better, workout more or eliminate bad habits.. just remember it will will require some courage. But by using a 5 second technique called physiological intervention (I know it sound intense but it’s actually really amazing) I’ve been able to break some habits, take action and have more courage.

Rose and Orange DIY Exfoliating Body Scrub

Rose skin care.jpg

Happy Hump Day loves!

I wanted to talk a bit about self care because I also think it’s a huge piece if the puzzle when it comes to being happy. I’ve started to implement tiny self care habits into my day and Ive realized there’s a lot I can with little time and usually with little cost.

I think you should too! There are so many everyday habits that we can implement that make a huge difference! Here’s a few I love:

- Get your stretch on, have you ever just sat down and took a 5 min deep stretch. It feels pretty amazing. Your body will thank you too.
- Go for a walk or run in nature. I do this every morning. While it might not seem like self care at first you’ll realize when your done how good it feels.

- Have a self date 😊grab your favorite lunch by yourself and just spend some time checking in with yourself. Grab your favorite book and kick your feet up. -
- Take a home spa 🛁essential oils, bathrobe, candles, magazines, do it all♥️

I put together an amazing body scrub that’s super easy and little from your pocket. It’s important to exfoliate your skin so new skin can surface and your skin is soft! I like to exfoliate with this is the bath, the Epsom salts are also very detoxifying because they cause an increase in circulation.

Rose and Orange Body Scrub
What you need:
* ½ cup Epsom salt
* 2 tbsp jojoba oil
* 1 vitamin E capsule
* 1 tbsp crushed lavender flowers or rose petals
* Optional: 7 drops your favorite essential oil (orange essential oil, lavender essential oil, etc)
* Glass bowl for mixing
* Air tight container

1. Crush your herbs (lavender flowers, rose petals, chamomile flowers, etc) using a Blender.
2. In a glass bowl, add ½ cup Epsom salt followed by 2 tbsp jojoba oil. Pierce a Vitamin E capsule and squeeze out the oil into the bowl.
3. Add your crushed herbs and mix them in evenly throughout the salt mixture.
4. Add 7 drops of your favorite essential oil and stir everything again.
5. Your Epsom salt scrub is ready for use!
6. To use it as a body scrub, take 1-2 tbsp of your scrub in a bowl to the shower with you. Gently scrub it on your wet skin in the shower, rinse it off then lather up with soap as usual.
